Happy Valentine's Day!

Together Forever Dragon Stout Cheesecake 

Ingredients:

1/2lb cream cheese

2eggs

1/2cup heavy cream

4oz sugar

2oz cornstarch

1 cup Dragon stout

Method:

Cream cheese and sugar then add eggs, heavy cream, dissolve corn starch and add to mixture, then Dragon stout.

Bake at 200 degrees in a steam bath for one hour

Chocolate Wet Kisses 

Ingredients:

12 Strawberries

1lb Melted dark chocolate

1/4 lb white chocolate

Method:

Dip strawberries half way with dark chocolate, place on bamboo skewers to dry.

The "Wata Wid Wow!" was launched in 2008 with Cranberry and White Cranberry flavours, winning Observer's Best New Food Item one year later.

"With over 70 million bottles sold to date, what are you waiting for to taste the 'wow' in Ocean Spray WATA," said Tamara Ward, brand manager of the beverage. "Have a new experience in 2011 with our new favorite flavour, White Cranberry Strawberry," she told Thursday Food.

Years ago I read a book by Paulo Coelho that had the following quote: "When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." I recently attended a very interesting Scotch tasting, hosted by regional Johnnie Walker Ambassador Arturo Savage. There were so many similarities with the wine world I decided to do a short piece on Scotch. A couple of days later, February's Wine Spectator (WS) magazine landed on my desk with the banner headline "A Wine Lover's Guide to Scotch". All over the world people clink glasses of champagne, wine, rum, vodka and other spirits wishing each other good health, “Cheers", “Salud”, “À votre santé”, “Chin chin”, or “Prost”. But there was a point in our history when this ritual was actually a life or death situation.

When I first discovered wine in a serious way many years ago, among the things I did to fast-forward my wine knowledge was to ask wine lovers for a list of the wines that I should buy. The wines of Cakebread Cellars were on most of those lists. Another list that features Cakebread Cellars wines is the annual Wine and Spirits Restaurant poll who saw it fit to award Cakebread Cellars the rank of number 1 best-selling wines in America.

Earlier this week Dennis Cakebread, Senior VP Sales and Marketing for Cakebread Cellars, visited Jamaica in order to meet some of his customers. I caught up with Dennis for a brief chat on a range of topics.

In 1972, Jack Cakebread (Dennis's Dad) was under commission as photographer for Nathan Chroman's photographic history "The Treasury of American Wines." He stopped one day in the Napa Valley to see family friends, the Sturdivants, an elderly couple who acquired their 22-acre Rutherford ranch in 1946, and had decided to sell it. With the understanding that the Sturdivants could live on the ranch as long as they wished, Jack and Dolores Cakebread purchased it, founding Cakebread Cellars.
