The Return of Grogg Shoppe

The re-opening of the Grogg Shoppe was highly anticipated by regular patrons to Devon House. After all, this was where many used to frequent after work to have a drink with friends or grab a quick bite to eat while waiting on the traffic to subside.

Now, with the reopening of the Great House, Grogg Shoppe has once again opened its doors, offering a spread of Jamaican fare for which the restaurant has come to be known and loved.

Don't know what to order? Diners can try a 'tasting platter', which
includes (from top) white rice, ackee and codfish, oxtail and beans
and curried goat.

A hot day in the city calls for a
refreshing glass of Grogg
Shoppe's wet sugar lemonade.

A simple 'yard salad' of finely shredded carrots and cabbage,
avocado, lettuce and tomato.

Fried to a beautiful golden colour, ackee and codfish puffs are like a
delicate alternative to ‘stamp and go’. Dip it in the delicious teriyaki
sauce with lime and mirin before savouring.

Critics have often noted that when visitors come to Jamaica, the first thing they ask for is 'real Jamaican

cooking'. Unfortunately, few places in Kingston exist where they can sit in a safe, relaxed setting and do just this. Enter Grogg Shoppe, where one can enjoy authentic Jamaican meals in nice surroundings, and presented in an enticing way.

Operated by Tino Caldarelli and Gloria Palomino, the Grogg Shoppe has retained its charm â€" the intimate indoor dining set against a backdrop of brick walls, the casual outdoor courtyard and garden area â€" and no matter where you choose to take your meal, it will taste just as great.

Kitchen and menu consultant Norma Shirley has played an integral role in ensuring that the food that leaves the kitchen is up to par â€" creative, yet authentic dishes that are appetising not only to the palette, but also to the eye.

With offerings of lunch and dinner already underway, the Grogg Shoppe will soon further appease patrons with brunch on Sunday. However, while we wait, we invite you to feast your eyes on a selection from the menu.
