The jovial atmosphere at Caymanas Golf and Country Club was a quaint match for the cool afternoon temperatures last Sunday. Those attending LIME's Amateur Golf Tournament and cook-off, conceptualised by SportsMax, were treated to friendly rivalry among the six teams competing not only on the green but on the grill as well.

Chicken, beef and pork, compliments of Caribbean Broilers, were fired up on the grill, and the competing chefs (Advantage Generals versus Appleton Buccaneers, LIME Lions versus JMMB Eagles, and Sportsmax Max Pack versus Pure Country Springs) squared off in teams of two to whip up

Metric versus Imperial: Why I Choose Metric

I recently received a flurry of emails after my rum and raisin cake was published. I was taken off guard because since the inception of this column I have used metric except on rare occasions. I didn't just suddenly use metric overnight. It's always been my practice. I will continue to use metric because it is what I was taught, and how I triple-test my recipes based on my measuring equipment. The fact is, 95 per cent of the world's population uses metric as it is the international standard of measuring weight and volume. The nations known as BUL (Burma -now known as Myanmar due to the military junta, United States of America and Liberia) are the only nations that still use the old imperial system. They are resisting joining the rest of the world, but trade and other factors will force them join in the future.

Here in Jamaica, if you go to the petrol station the units of gasoline and diesel are in litres, when we watch the weather news temperatures are in Celsius versus Fahrenheit and

The postponement of the Jamaica Pegasus's Wine, Spirits & Food Festival due to Tropical Storm Tomas only meant that purveyors had a longer time to perfect their exhibitions.

Packaged meat purveyors Caribbean Passions presented a flat-crust pizza topped with chicken ham.

Herb-roasted chicken with a white wine sauce.

Using sugar syrup, Blue Curacao, lime juice and Wray & Nephew white overproof rum, Wray & Nephew presented Sex in the Sun.

The event, held inside the hotel's Grand Jamaican Suite, was staged between Sunday, November 14 and Monday, November 15 and featured a variety of booths offering wines, savoury and sweet treats alike.

Ten winners representing Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum's key markets worldwide duked it out over cocktails during the brand's International Bartender Showcase at Hope Gardens on Friday, October 22.

Having won the mixology and bartending competitions in their native countries, nine bartenders were flown to Jamaica to compete against The Rock's own St Aubyn Kidd â€" who won the local leg of the challenge last month â€" and participate in the two-hour showcase.

With main sponsors Best Dressed Foods providing the proteins and the starches, whole vegetables and sauces came from a mystery basket, it was non-stop action as Adonis Campbell, Oniel Gordon, Jonhoi Reid and Andrae Ellis worked against the clock under the watchful eyes of Culinary Federation of Jamaica judges: Steve Sowa, Michael Dannecker, and Daniel Schweizer as well as Reggae Jammin Brand Officer Caris-Ann Rhoden.
